Proof of financial means for living expenses

(for extensions only)

For the extension immigration procedure you need to fulfill certain requirements set by the Dutch Government. One of these requirements is the proof of financial means.

Please note: until September 1, 2022 it is possible to prove your proof of fiancial means by using the 4 options listed below. As of September 1, 2022, only 3 options remain: transfer full amount to AUAS (and receive a refund), via solvability statement from your Dutch bank account or by scholarship or grant.

WHAT IS THE PROOF OF FINANCIAL MEANS?

The Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) requires that you have sufficient financial means to cover your stay in the Netherlands. The required minimum amount set by the IND is €950 a month. Students who come to AUAS for one semester need to show that they have sufficient financial resources for a period of seven months. Please note that this is not a payment. It’s only showing that you have enough money to sustain yourself here in the Netherlands.

  • The Proof of Financial means for one semester: €6.650.
  • The Proof of Financial Means for one academic year/2 semesters: is €11.400.

Please note that we strongly advise students in these uncertain times to bring enough money (besides the required amount proof of financial means set by the IND) with you to sustain yourself in the first two months after arrival, since it can take some time to open a Dutch bank account.

HOW TO PROVIDE YOUR PROOF OF FINANCIAL MEANS FOR LIVING EXPENSES FOR THE EXTENSION PROCEDURE?

There are four ways to prove your financial means for living expenses. You can choose which option is most suitable or convenient for you. Please note that for students from certain countries only option 1 is available. Please use this list to find out if you are required to use this option. Please click on each option to see which requirements must be met. If the requirements are not met we can not accept the proof of financial means for living expenses.

The first option is to transfer the required amount directly into our bank account. You will receive a refund of the amount in the first month of your study programme.

If you choose this option, please write in the reference: "AUAS VVR + your full name (last name, first name) + your date of birth (dd-mm-yyyy).” This is the only way we can locate your payment(s). Make sure that you indicate that you will pay for all the international transaction costs. If you fail to do so you need to transfer the remaining amount separately!

In the first two weeks of September* (after the start of your study programme) we will send you a refund form. After we received this form filled in, it will take between 10-20 working days before you will receive the money into your account. We cannot speed up this process, so take enough money with you to sustain yourself in the first two months after arrival.

*Should you start in Spring Semester you will receive the refund form the first week of February.

The second option to prove your financial means for living expenses is through sending us a copy of an original bank letter. It must meet the following requirements:

  • The account must be held solely in your name and must contain your full name*;
  • Issued on official company paper in one of the following languages: English or Dutch
  • The bank letter must state checking or (regular) savings account. With a checking account or a regular savings account you can always withdraw cash freely. Do you have a different type of account? The bank letter must state in print that funds are “freely accessible and can be withdrawn at any time”. For Certificates of Deposits the sentence that funds are freely accessible and can be withdrawn at any time must always be present;
  • The date of issue (not issued more than 3 months before the deadline);
  • The account number must be specified;
  • Must state that the funds in the account are sufficient to meet your financial means in euros or their equivalent in your local currency;
  • Must mention the bank’s contact details (branch address, phone number, e-mail address and/or website);
  • Must mention a contact person and a signature;
  • For students that will follow an AUAS bachelor or master, read and fulfill the additional information below this page as well.

Please see the grey box on the right (or for mobile users below) for an example of an accepted bank letter.

* When you have a joint account you must attach a copy passport and financial statement of all joint account holders. You can find the financial statement for sponsor form in the green box on the right side of the screen (for mobile users below).

The third option to provide your proof of financial means for living expenses is through a sponsor who lives outside the Netherlands. We do not accept sponsors within the Netherlands with a Dutch bank account.

You need to provide three items:

  1. A copy of a valid passport of the sponsor;

  2. The financial statement for sponsors, signed by sponsor. See green box on the right (or for mobile users below) to download this form;

  3. Bank statement with the following requirements:

Option 4 is providing the proof of financial means for living expenses through a scholarship or grant. Please keep in mind that student loan(s) will not be accepted as part of your proof of financial means for living expenses. A correct scholarship declaration must show:

  • The date;
  • The institution granting the scholarship;
