Find a buddy

Welcome to Amsterdam! As an international student, it might be challenging to make new friends. Where to start?

Our capital city has a lot to offer, including a rich culture of student networks, buddies and associations. Students from different study programmes get together to have unforgettable events. A buddy or a student association is a great way to make new friends and develop yourself in a safe environment.

ESN Amsterdam

The Erasmus Student Network Amsterdam (ESN) matches local students with exchange students. Every year, ESN Amsterdam helps over 1000 international students. They also organise a introduction programme (partially online and offline) for exchange students in August 2022. Find out more here.

The Amsterdam Student Union (ASVA) offers a buddy programme for the entire semester but also with a focus on self-quarantine. In case you need to go into isolation, buddies can help you with groceries and getting settled in. They work together with relevant study associations who match students with students from their own study programmes.

AUAS Experience

The AUAS is so much more than just your programme. Several student associations and student platforms can help you to make friends. Discover what else you can do at the AUAS Experience!

Resident Assistants & Caretakers

Most housing buildings offered through the AUAS have Resident Assistants (RAs) and/or caretakers. RA's are local students who live together with international students who are there to help to build a community through fun activities and events. They are your first point of contact in your building. Caretakers are there to assist you as well.
