International mobility

First semester 2021-2022

The AUAS has taken decisions concerning the international mobility of students in the first semester of the academic year 2021-2022. These decisions pertain to incoming mobility of degree-seeking students and exchange students, as well as outgoing mobility such as exchange, internships/work placements and other types of mobility. Your safety as a student is at the heart of this decision, as well as the quality of the learning experience, the reciprocity of exchanges and the possibilities for tailor-made education at our programmes.

A brief explanation is included below. If you’re looking for a detailed overview of the impact of this decision on outgoing mobility, please see Going Abroad.

Conditions

Degree-seeking students (Bachelor’s and Master’s) and exchange students are welcome under certain conditions:

Students should follow the general guidelines of the Dutch government regarding entry . This means:

  • undergoing a Covid-19 test;
  • quarantining upon arrival for the required period.

As a student, you are required to cover the costs and arrange accommodation during your self-quarantine. Student organisations ASVA and ISN can help connect you with buddies who assist international students who are required to quarantine upon arrival. Please see the ASVA and ISN websites for more information.

Your AUAS programme will start online in the event that the Dutch government has banned your departure country from entering the Netherlands. The programme will arrange this.

Exchange students are also required to obtain permission from their home university prior to travelling.

As a student, you can go abroad at your own risk for the purpose of internships and exchange, both within and outside of the EU/EEA, under certain conditions. Please refer to the Going Abroad website for a detailed overview of all conditions, deadlines and country colour-codes prior to your departure.

It’s important to note the following:

  • You’re required to sign an agreement and to make a Plan B in case your international internship or exchange can’t go ahead.
  • If your destination’s colour-code permits incoming travel on 15 June 2021, you can go ahead and book your travel arrangements. If this is not the case, then Plan B applies and you should contact your programme.
  • The 15 June 2021 deadline also applies for international internships. Internships starting after 1 October 2021 are an exception. The deadline for these cases is 2.5 months prior to your intended departure date.
  • You only travel if the colour-code of your destination on the day of departure is green or yellow, as classified by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If your internship or exchange is based within the EU/EEA/United Kingdom or Switzerland and the colour-code is orange due to Covid-19, then the decision is up to you. Be aware! You must decide on this yourself. You’re required to arrange additional insurance if you choose to go ahead with the trip.

If you have any questions about the rules listed above you can contact your programme.

Other forms of mobility, such as short-term AUAS study trips or group travel, are permitted within and outside the EU/EEA if you only travel when the colour code is green or yellow on the day of departure according to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Please refer to the Going Abroad website for a detailed overview of all conditions, deadlines and country colour-codes prior to your departure.

In consultation with your programme, all outgoing students are required to sign an agreement containing a checklist.

This checklist intends to ensure that you properly assess the risks and are aware of the possible consequences of going abroad during the Covid-19 pandemic. This will also help you to sort out various practical matters.

Goodwill scheme

A goodwill scheme is available for students facing exceptional circumstances in relation to the decision outlined above. This scheme is for:

  1. AUAS students who are already situated abroad.
  2. International students who want to return to their home country.
  3. Other (unspecified) distressing cases.

The study programme is responsible for deciding whether leniency applies. All of the conditions for the goodwill scheme are listed on this page.
