Wooclap: audience response tool

Wooclap is an audience response tool. You can use Wooclap to put forward questions or statements to the audience during presentations.

How does Wooclap work?

Wooclap is an audience response tool. Audience members respond to your questions or statements using their smartphone or laptop. You can then show the results directly on your presentation screen. The tool can be used both in lecture rooms and online.

How to use Wooclap

You can use Wooclap for free when you log in with your HvA-ID and password at wooclap.hva.nl. Create a new event. This is where you can add questions and statements, upload and show a PowerPoint or Google Sheets presentation, and view the responses to your questions.

User manuals

  1. To get directly to the Wooclap login page, go to wooclap.hva.nl .
    Alternative:
Go to wooclap.com and click on Log in in the top right corner. Always choose the Sign in with your institution method and search for Hogeschool van Amsterdam in the list.
  2. Enter your AUAS-ID and password.
It may happen that you were already logged in in the browser and you do not need to enter it again. If necessary, agree to the terms and conditions (when logging in for the first time).

After you have successfully logged in you will be directed to the My events page in Wooclap.

When you are logged into Wooclap you can select your language in the upper right corner.

  • Click on ‘New event’ to add questions.
  • If you would like to change the title of the event, click on the pencil icon in the top left-hand corner.

Questions posed to the audience are called ‘interactions’ in Wooclap. There are various types of questions you can add to the event. Visit the Wooclap website to learn more about the different question types

  • Click on the type of question you would like to use and complete the fields.
  • You can configure the options for your question on the right-hand side of the screen, such as adding a timer for the participants to submit their answers.
  • Save the question by clicking on ‘Save’ at the bottom right.

  • Each event has a unique code that participants must enter in order to participate. This code is automatically generated and can be found in the top right-hand corner of the screen after ‘Participate at’. If you would like to create a code yourself, edit the code by clicking on the pencil icon.
  • Each event has a ‘How to participate?’ slide. This slide explains how your audience can participate in the event. Click on ‘Start’ to show the slide.
  • Once everyone has entered the code, you can close the ‘How to participate?’ slide by clicking on ‘Exit’ at the bottom of the screen.
  • Now you can ask your first question. Your audience can answer the question using their phone, laptop or tablet.
  • The answers will be displayed automatically.

  • Click on the ‘Presentation’ button in the top right-hand corner to add your presentation. Wooclap accepts PDF, PowerPoint and Keynote files, or a link to a Google Slides presentation.
  • Click on the ‘Insert questions’ button on the right-hand side of the screen. You will see the questions you have added to the event on the right. To the left of this, you will see the slides from the presentation.
  • Drag the questions to the right position between the slides. Do not forget to add the ‘How to participate?’ slide.
  • Click on ‘Save’ at the bottom of the screen to save the questions you have inserted.
  • Start your presentation by clicking on ‘Start’ on the right-hand side of the screen.

The Wooclap add-in allows you to insert Wooclap questions directly into PowerPoint. You can only use this add-in with the AUAS-Microsoft-365-licence.

  • Open PowerPoint and go to the ‘Home’ tab.
  • Click on ‘Add-ins’, then click on ‘See all´ and go to ‘Admin-managed’.
  • Select ‘Wooclap’ and click on ‘Add’.
  • Log into the pop-up window using your AUAS-ID by selecting ‘Log in via an institution’.

You can now insert the questions you previously added via wooclap.hva.nl into your PowerPoint presentation. To do so, follow these steps:

  • Add a blank slide to your existing PowerPoint presentation in the place where you want to insert the Wooclap interaction.
  • Go back to ‘My Add-ins’ and then click ‘Admin-managed’ and click on ‘Add Wooclap’.
  • Choose the event with the questions you would like to use. Do not use questions from two different events in the same presentation and use each question only once.
  • First add the ‘How to participate?’ slide, so that participants will know how they can participate.
  • Create a new blank slide for every question and add the Wooclap add-in to the slide each time.
  • Once you have inserted all your questions into your presentation, you can start the PowerPoint presentation as usual.
  • When you come to the first Wooclap slide, you will see a play button to activate the session. Click on the button to start the interactive session.

Wooclap offers many more features that you can use for presentations:

  • Moderator: the moderator function allows you as the presenter to choose which responses do and do not appear on the screen. You can also manage the presentation from a second screen (e.g. on your smartphone). Find out how it works here
  • Messages: participants can submit questions and comments on the message wall during the presentation. You can enable this feature on the ‘Messages’ tab.
  • Competition mode: add a competitive element to your presentation by having the audience take part in a competition. You can enable this feature for your event in ‘Settings’. Choose the option ‘Participant username’, so that the participants can compete using a nickname of their choice.
  • Reuse an event: if it is not important to save the results from the previous session, you can reset the session and start again. If it is important to save the results from the previous session, you can duplicate the event.

After giving your presentation with Wooclap, you can view the answers to the questions in the event settings:

  • Click on the ‘Grid’ button to view the results in your internet browser.
  • If you want to download the results, click on ‘Export results to Excel’.
  • Click on the ‘Report’ button to view a report of the session, which you can download as a PDF.
