Degree certificate and the foundation year

When you have acquired all 60 credits in your first year, you will receive the Higher Professional Education (HBO) Foundation Year Certificate.

Letter from the study advisor

You will be sent a letter requesting you to check your personal information in Studielink. This information will be printed on your foundation year certificate, so make sure it is correct and report any inaccuracies by following the instructions in the letter.

Cum laude designation

If you obtained high grades over the course of your foundation year, you may qualify for a cum laude designation. Be sure to check your grades in SIS well in advance, and check your degree programme's Teaching and Examination Regulations to find out whether you meet the requirements – as well as any supplementary conditions that may apply. After that, you can submit a request to the Examination Board.

Drawing up the foundation year certificate

As soon as the Education Office has determined that you have successfully met all the educational requirements of your foundation year and that your grades have been properly processed, your foundation year certificate will be drawn up. The process of drawing up the foundation year certificates starts in the second week of each month, for students who have completed their foundation year in the month preceding it. In the third or fourth week, the Education Office should send word that your certificate is ready.

Foundation year ceremony

Every degree programme organises a foundation year ceremony. Your degree programme will send you an official invitation.

At the end of your fourth year, you should have accumulated a total of 240 credits. You can find out how these credits are distributed across the various courses in your programme by checking the course catalogue.

If you meet all the requirements, you will receive the following:

  1. the degree certificate;
  2. a list of grades;
  3. an English-language diploma supplement .

Check your grades in SIS and your personal information in Studielink

  • Always make sure your marks are registered in SIS properly and in good time! If you encounter any issues, you should contact the Education Office before the deadline for lecturers to register grades.
  • As soon as you have 180 credits registered in SIS, you will receive an email reminding you to check your personal information in Studielink. This information will be printed on your degree certificate, so make sure it is correct and report any amendments on time by following the instructions in the email.
  • Make sure to check Onstage in time. Trouble? contact the coördination team of your program.

Have you taken part in an Honours programme without having finished it?

Notify the Education Office of this in good time, because SIS will consider you as 'not graduated' as long as your Honour's requirements are not registered in SIS, meaning your Professional Higher Education (HBO) Bachelor's degree certificate will not be drawn up. Any credits you have earned through the Honours programme will be listed under extracurricular activities on your list of grades.

Cum laude

If you obtained high marks over the course of your degree programme, you may qualify for a cum laude designation on your degree certificate. Be sure to check your grades in SIS well in advance, and check your degree programme's Teaching and Examination Regulations to find out whether you meet the requirements – as well as any supplementary conditions that may apply. Once you have done the above, you can submit an application to the Examinations Board through the Examinations Board Digital Service Point.

Drawing up the degree certificate

As soon as the Education Office has determined that you have successfully met all the educational requirements and that your grades have been properly processed, your degree year certificate will be drawn up. When it is ready, you will receive a notification from the Education Office, giving you a choice between:

  • receiving your certificate during the ceremony;
  • personally collecting it from the Service Point (for details, see below).

How long will it take?

Outside of the graduation ceremonies, the process of drawing up the certificates starts in the second week of each month, for the graduates of the month preceding it. In the fourth week, the Education Office should send word that your certificate is ready.

In the periods for graduation ceremonies, the certificates are drawn up more often and you can collect yours during the graduation ceremony. If you are not able to attend the ceremony, you can collect your certificate from the Service Point following notification by the Education Office.

Graduation Ceremony

Every degree programme organises one or more graduation ceremonies. Your degree programme will send you an official invitation.

Would you like to collect your degree certificate in person? You can do so as soon as you receive an email from the Education Office informing you that your certificate is ready for collection from the Service Point.
