Software and apps for AUAS students

Free and secure

The AUAS has various apps, software and other facilities to support your studies online. You can follow lectures digitally, hold online meetings and study together online with fellow students. There are also opportunities to share files and store them online, and to conduct surveys and involve your audience in your presentation.

On computers in classrooms you will find Adobe Creative Cloud, including Dreamweaver, Indesign, Photoshop. If you want to use this software, please note the following:

  • Log in with your Adobe ID. Do you not have an Adobe ID? Then you can apply for one free of charge on the Adobe website: Creating or updating your Adobe ID. Preferably do this with your private e-mail address, so you can continue to use the ID after your studies.
  • After logging in, always choose ‘Personal Account’.
  • When you are done, log out. This releases the licence on your computer to others. Moreover, no one can then misuse your login details.

Adobe software on your own computer

You can purchase Adobe software at a reduced rate from SURFspot | Smart deals for education.

Use software installed on AUAS computers also directly on your own computer, iPad or phone via apps.hva.nl.
Go directly to apps.hva.nl

You can access individual apps via the virtual workstation apps.hva.nl. Here you can consult the same files on e.g. OneDrive as you normally would when logged in on an AUAS computer. So you can start a virtual workstation from your own computer or tablet and use the software available on the AUAS computers.

Software on apps.hva.nl

On apps.hva.nl you will find, among other things:

  • PowerBI: visualising data
  • Matlab: data analysis, developing algorithms and creating models and applications
  • Enterprise dynamics: simulation tool that provides insight into complex processes and helps implement new or varied processes
  • SPSS: for collecting, entering, reading, editing and/or analysing data
  • Berkley studio: environment for developing decision trees
  • AutoCad: drawing programme to make 2d and 3d sketches
  • Solidworks: 3D CAD design software

Would you like to conduct an online survey for your research? With Microsoft Forms, it is easy to design and conduct surveys. This software is available to all AUAS students and staff members.

MaxQDA is a programme that allows you to analyse qualitative research data, for example a number of interviews.

Is MaxQD available via the AUAS?

You can use MaxQD via apps.hva.nl (see above) or buy it at a reduced rate from SURFspot. The cost is approx. 40 euros per half year or 80 euros for a full year.

Please note when using MaxQD via apps.hva.nl:

  • MaxQDA requires high resolution and precise mouse-screen interaction or reaction speed. If you use the programme via apps.hva.nl, it is not 100% in focus, making it tiring to use.
  • In apps.hva.nl, it works a little slower, so you may find yourself releasing the fragment at the wrong time and in the wrong code. This can be annoying.

How do you save projects on your own computer?

MaxQDA cannot deal with a cloud-service storage like OneDrive. Read the information on this in the FAQ list. MaxQDA therefore strongly recommends saving the project file locally, i.e. on the computer running the programme.

How do you save project files in apps.hva.nl?

Save them on the ‘Desktop’ or or in the folders ‘Documents’ and ‘Pictures’. Note! Files in the folder ‘Downloads’ are not saved. As soon as you log out, these are gone.
