Additional Exam Time
If you suffer from dyslexia, ADHD, a chronic disease or other personal circumstances that influence your ability to read and/or concentrate, you can submit a request for additional exam time during written examinations to your student counsellor. The standard additional time is 25%, or 50% for a visual impairment. Student counsellors can grant such requests on behalf of the examinations board. In many cases, students who grew up outside the Netherlands are also given additional exam time at the start of their studies.
How to request additional exam time
Requests for additional exam time should always be submitted to your student counsellor. Do you suffer from dyslexia? If so, you do not need to visit the student counsellor yourself. Instead, you can request additional exam time and test forms in large-sized print online. More information on this can be found in the A-Z list under 'Studying with a disability'.
If you grew up outside the Netherlands, or if you suffer from personal circumstances including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, visual impairment, chronic illness or psychological complaints, contact the student counsellor for your degree programme to discuss whether additional exam time would be a suitable provision for you. In this context, 'suitable' means that the provision actually helps you and that it is necessary due to your personal circumstances. If the provision is suitable and the student counsellor has verified the evidence of your circumstances, additional exam time can be requested.
When to request additional exam time
How quickly your request can be processed depends on your degree programme. Consult the information below, under the heading 'How does additional exam time work?' In case of personal circumstances, you should ideally consult your student counsellor as soon as possible.
Do you suffer from dyslexia? Make sure to upload your dyslexia statement during the first week of your degree programme, or preferably sooner. For information on how to do so, check the A-Z list under 'Studying with a disability'.
